J6 reduces Pochins telecoms spend by over 30% and improves management controls

Pochin’s is one of the UK’s leading names in construction. J6 was briefed by the Group Finance Director to audit the entire telecoms estate and recommend cost and efficiency improvements.
"The Pochin’s telecoms estate is complex, covering multiple sites and with a requirement to rapidly provision temporary building and development sites", explained J6 Chief Executive Elie Jankelewitz. "We conducted an in-depth audit which revealed where structural improvements could be made, as well as identifying significant savings.
"We take a very different approach to other telecoms specialists. Our analysis is more extensive and we look at telecoms usage in minute details to pick out opportunities for time as well as cost savings. We also combine the analysis of fixed line traffic and mobile traffic.
"Here is what we did for Pochins:"
- The telecoms estate was rationalised by removing fixed lines which were no longer required
- The fixed line charge rate was reduced by consolidating suppliers and “piggybacking” the Pochin’s contract onto other J6 contracts (forming part of a £20m annual telecoms spend)
- The process for rapidly implementing new lines onto temporary sites was streamlined, ensuring that lines were cancelled when the site was closed
- Management reporting was improved by ensuring that bills were submitted in a pre-defined format, with specific details
- KPIs and early warning systems were established to help management maintain tight control of all telecom expenditures
- Pochin’s joined the J6 Market Price Tracker Programme to ensure that they will always be aware of better tariffs as market conditions change
"The results were outstanding", continues Elie, "with initial savings of 17% on telecoms spend, and then a further 15% reduction following a subsequent review, as part of the J6 Market Price Tracker Programme. As well as the savings and improved management control, Pochins saved a lot of time and effort required to validate bills by implementing a set of alarms to alert management of exceptions".
